Brunch in Phoenix gives you the opportunity to enjoy traditional Arizona fare, whether it’s at a picnic table, on an organic farm or surrounded by the elegance of an adobe hacienda. Savor spicy chilaquiles or, for those with a sweet tooth, devour the biggest cinnamon roll you have ever seen. Here’s Culture Trip’s pick of the best.

Regional brunch cuisine in a hacienda setting

Lon’s at the Hermosa Inn, a historic hacienda established in the 1930s as a retreat by Western artist Lon Megargee, provides an elegant–casual atmosphere for brunch-goers, with Megargee artwork and mementos still decorating the light-filled dining room. Brunch can be a simple sharing of Lon’s famous sticky monkey bread on the patio, or a sumptuous plate of lobster quiche or huevos rancheros. It’s known for its continental cuisine with a southwestern twist, and brunch is served 10am-2pm on Sundays. Watch for special event brunches on holidays such as Easter and Mother’s Day.

Craft cocktails, fresh cuisine and immense cinnamon rolls

Prep & Pastry lies between Fashion Square and the Waterfront in Scottsdale, and you sit inside or out to enjoy brunch favorites such as iron skillet duck confit with braised duck, shallots, spinach, cabernet-braised cherries, house potatoes and cherry goat cheese mousse with over-easy eggs. Pair with a craft cocktail, then relax and enjoy the casual ambience. But don’t ignore the pastry offerings – the huge cinnamon rolls are great, and the list changes daily at the whim of the pastry chef. Brunch also includes plenty of vegetarian options. After indulging, take a walk on the waterfront promenade and check out the public art along the way.

Order brunch at the window at Morning Glory Cafe, and find a place to sit on a picnic bench under the trees where you can enjoy the peaceful setting of this urban organic farm. Brunch offerings include produce from the farm, as well as house-smoked meats. Weekends are ideal for brunch as this restaurant in the middle of the farmlands is open until 1pm. There are “farm-fresh from the Southwest” entrées such as chilaquiles and pork belly tacos, as well as typical American fare such as eggs and house-smoked meats in a build-your-own option. After brunch, stroll through the fields and see what’s growing on this farm and event venue.

Known for its Build Your Own Bloody Mary bar, Hash Kitchen offers 100 toppings for your brunch drink in this lively, Arcadia eatery. There are other locations throughout the valley, but the Arcadia outlet is a fun site for brunch. After building your bloody mary, check out the brunch menu made up of locally sourced fresh produce for spicy chilaquiles, fresh fruit boards, pancakes and, continuing the build-your-own theme, brunch do it your way with frittatas and egg scrambler combos. There are also decadent dishes such as eggs benedict, and special dishes for the little family members.

Matt’s Big Breakfast serves up brunch delights from 7am to 2pm daily, with the lunch menu available from 11am – and all dishes are made using locally sourced produce. A favorite for the hearty eater is the breakfast Big Papa Burrito – a tortilla stuffed with three eggs, Schreiner’s chorizo, roasted potatoes, organic pinto beans, jalapenos and creamy cheddar cheese topped off with the house ranchero sauce. You can order ahead for takeout.

A long-time Phoenix fave, the Original Breakfast House serves mouth-watering traditional diner food such as fried French toast, amazing fried chicken and noteworthy fries. Continuing on the comfort food path, you’ll love their house-made biscuits and gravy. For southwestern fare, try their John Wayne Western Omelette filled with ham, peppers, onions and cheddar cheese. Or, check out the El Paso filled with chorizo, chilis, cheese and lots of veggies with guacamole on the side. An in-house bakery ensures you’ll not go home hungry.
